A few weeks ago I wrote a post about using a Realtor® to help you buy a home. I have been planning on writing a post about using a realtor to help sell your home but then I found this story from the Wall Street Journal explaining that one of the founders of ForSaleByOwner.com used a realtor to sell his New York condo. Colby Sambrotto tried selling his condo on his own for six months using classified ads, online listings and the web site he helped create but was unsuccessful. The realtor he hired convinced him to actually raise the list price from $2 million and ended up with a final sale price of $2.15 million. The realtor explained that the price needed to be raised because Mr. Sambrotto wasn’t in the right price range for buyers who would be interested in that condo.
Sure, it is possible to sell your home on your own otherwise sites like ForSaleByOwner.com wouldn’t continue to exist. However, this story shows that even a founder and COO of a do-it-yourself real estate site didn’t have a firm grasp of the market and all of the variables that go into selling a home. If you are thinking of selling your home do you really want to take the chance that you might be leaving money on the table? Can you afford to have your home listed for sale for six months? And finally, do you really want to limit the number of potential buyers to only those people who aren’t using Realtors®? Give us a call at (541) 508-2930 and let a professional Bend Oregon Realtor® help you sell your home. Just like Mr. Sambrotto did.
